Lisa joined Harmers in 2010 and is currently a Consultant to the firm.
Lisa has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from Latrobe University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia. Lisa was admitted to practice in 2002 and since that time has specialised in employment and workplace relations law. Lisa is also a qualified mediator.
Lisa has extensive experience representing employers, unions and workers in the areas of employment, industrial and discrimination law. Lisa’s particular areas of expertise include advising in relation to:
- enterprise bargaining processes, negotiation, drafting and interpretation;
- application of modern awards;
- dispute settling processes including mediation;
- unfair & unlawful dismissal claims;
- application of pay equity principles;
- discrimination, harassment and bullying claims;
- General Protections matters;
- workplace investigations;
- assisting organisations to develop and adopt appropriate HR and workplace relations policies and practices;
- provision of training and information seminars across all levels of the workforce; and
- rules of registered organisations.
Prior to joining Harmers, Lisa was the Executive Director of the Australian Institute of Employment Rights (AIER). AIER is an independent organisation made up of employers, unions, academics and lawyers working towards the promotion of positive workplace relations and workplace relations systems. During 2009 Lisa spent several months working for the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Geneva, advising in relation to application of International Labour Standards to multinational corporations. She is regularly retained by the ILO to provide technical assistance.
Lisa has held appointed and elected positions with some of Australia’s leading trade unions and has acted as Industrial Relations and Legal Consultant for a number of small to medium enterprises. In 2008/9 Lisa was the lead advocate for the Queensland Services Union in the landmark pay equity case for community sector workers in Queensland.
Lisa has a particular commitment to finding practical strategies to resolve legal and industrial concerns.
