Hamish Black
Senior Associate and Team Leader
Hamish holds combined Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Macquarie University, where he was awarded the Faculty of Law prize for Employment Law and was placed on the SMH Higher Education Honour Roll for outstanding academic achievement.

Hamish regularly advises on:

  • executive service agreements, contracts of employment and workplace policies;
  • termination of employment and post-employment restraints;
  • enterprise bargaining and collective agreements;
  • workplace prosecutions; and
  • discrimination and EEO.

Litigation forms a large part of Hamish’s practice. He regularly acts for clients in breach of contract and trade practices matters as well as unfair dismissal and unfair contract proceedings in state and federal courts and industrial tribunals. He also regularly acts in workplace prosecutions under the Workplace Relations Act 1996.

Hamish has played a key part in some significant industrial and commercial matters in recent years, including matters before the High Court and other superior appellate courts. He currently has day to day carriage of high profile trade practices and unfair contracts matters respectively before the Federal Court and the High Court.

In recent years, Hamish has been involved in drafting key federal industrial relations legislation while on secondment to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

Hamish's client base includes blue chip and other corporations, government departments, prosecutorial authorities, industrial organisations and high net worth individuals.

Prior to joining the firm, Hamish was employed by the NSW Crime Commission.
