Joydeep Hor

Managing Partner and Team Leader

Joydeep is a Fellow of the Australian Human Resources Institute. He holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Sydney, where he previously completed his Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Laws degree with Honours. As Staff Partner of Harmers he saw the firm win the Institute’s Award for Excellence in People Management in NSW. He was appointed Managing Partner in July 2006, since which time the firm has received the prestigious ALB Australasian Law Award for Employment Specialist Law Firm of the Year for three consecutive years. Joydeep was also listed as one of the "ALB HOT 40" lawyers - recognised at the forefront of innovation and for outstanding performance in Australia/New Zealand for 2008.

With an extensive national corporate client base (that includes Mars, Cochlear, Dairy Farmers, Schenker, Fox Sports, Investec, the Audit Office of NSW, Russell Investment Group, CCH Australia, Daikin, Talent2 and many others), Joydeep’s practice has always revolved around cost-efficient and timely advice which has his clients seeing him as an integral part of their business, and a true business partner. Joydeep is widely regarded as a leading adviser to employers on terminations of employment, and in particular those terminations of a highly sensitive nature. Joydeep also has a particular expertise in EEO and anti-discrimination work and is experienced in more traditional “industrial relations” processes. He brings to his lawyering a commercially pragmatic and modern approach to legal problem-solving. Joydeep acted for Jessica Rowe in her highly-publicised legal dispute with Channel Ten in early 2006 and continues to act for her and other media personalities.

A regular commentator in the media, Joydeep appears on Sky Business Channel on a fortnightly basis to discuss topical workplace relations matters and conducts the monthly web-based employment law program for cle.tv. Joydeep is also an Editorial Board member for CCH’s Employment and Safety publications, and author of the books Inside Employee Screening (CPD, 2001), Work Choices Q&A: The Top 50 (CCH, 2007), Managing Termination of Employment (CCH, 2007), and Finders Keepers: How to Attract and Retain Great Employees (CCH, 2008).

Joydeep is an accomplished presenter and regularly conducts management training sessions on workplace law topics for leading Australian businesses as well as prominent public sector employers. He regularly presents seminar papers and has been widely published on employee relations issues. Joydeep presented at the Asia Pacific HR Summit in 2008.
